Wires that converge on a common node require a device to combine their signals, such as a multi-input OR gate. Fan-in is the number of inputs of such a device. As demonstrated in the following animation, a line of Z- or S-tetrominoes can provide unlimited fan-in.
Alternatively, a tree of gates can mergeĀ a boundless number of inputs.
